Hey Simon,

Nice! New camera? I have a Canon Rebel XTI and love it. Lenses are really expensive but a short lens is a lot of fun if you have money to spare.

Maybe we should start a photography blog together - haha.. I hear that's where the money's at!

I think the pay yourself first concept, despite it being discussed for quite some time in PF circles, is something that is timeless and that every aspiring young person should embrace as he/she travels the path to financial freedom. Poking money away (such as 15% of you bi-weekly pay for example) before spending is a great way to promote a frugal lifestyle and budget one's funds on a regular basis.

Regarding the Latte factor, lately, I've been going to McDonald's for coffee b/c they have a promotion right now that its free for a two week period. After that, I tend to perk my coffee at home. When I am away from home, I tend to buy coffee from a company that I have shares in. That way, I'm investing in myself, and hopefully i'll see some of that back in the form of dividends or share growth!

Nice post!

I can't agree with you more. It's true that there's no real free stuff, there's always a catch. You really have to be careful with dealing with those guys that offer free stuff because you might end up spending more. It happened a lot of times with me, once it's offered to you, you just can't resist it and realize in the end, why I took the bait. Nice article.

I find putting junk in front of my house is a great way to recycle. I just put a sign on it. If it is not gone in two days I get it hauled away. Most things go quickly. I did have a case where I had a tree die and I cut it in to big chunks and hauled it out to the road. This older woman came by and asked if I would help her load it. I found out that her husband was terminally ill and bed ridden and they heated their home with wood. I ended cutting the wood up into usable pieces and delivered three truck loads. It was a lot more work than I had planned to do but it was the right thing to do.

[...] 5. Abusing the credit cards. This is an easy one to fall into, and not just by college graduates. Upon graduation, the world is yours and all you can think of is jumping on the high paying job that you were trained for and letting the cash roll in. If it takes a little while that’s okay, because you have credit cards and you can pay them later, right? Unfortunately, the high paying job doesn’t always land at your feet as soon as you take your gown off and you certainly don’t want your entire salary going to paying credit cards – something that the recent CARD act hopes to assure.
Good points. It's definitley a marketing tactic which thousands gladly take advantage of. The "buy one get one free" (grocyer) gets my wife's attention all the time....but she also adds manufacturer's coupons to that and gets an even better deal...I love my wife.
