The personal finance blogosphere is starting up a storm as of late. Sam from Financial Samurai led the charge 7 months ago with the Yakezie challenge to improve Alexa website ranking. Now he’s taking a huge leap forward.

The Benefits
Many benefits come from a higher Alexa website rank. Yes, any website owner should be working towards increasing their sites popularity. That is an understandable goal because the more traffic a site gets, it also:

• appeals to more advertisers
• increases ad revenue
• leads to more perks
• spreads community recognition
• means straight up bragging rights

The Challenge
The goal was for all participants to reach the top 200,000 on Alexa within a 6-month period. Those already in the top 200,000 will shoot for the top 100,000. And those already the top 100,000 will go for the top 50,000.

The challenge offers a collaborative effort by all participants to promote each other so that we can all reach our goals together. While obtaining a high Alexa rank is the primary goal, the Yakezie challenge also cultivates new relationships between bloggers in order to build a strong network of insightful online friends.

The advent of the brand new Yakezie website has drawn my interest in participating in this challenge. Sure, the money is a great bonus. But, I’ve been writing here on Realm of Prosperity for over 3 years with little expectation of much monetary gain – so I look forward to growth in readership and recognition over an extra buck.

Per the popular advice, do what you love doing and the money will follow.

A Long Journey Ahead
Currently, Realm of Prosperity has an Alexa rank of 1,115,170. The goal is to break 200,000 by February 18, 2011.

I will report on the progress when 6 months has passed. Until then, I’ll be contributing to the wrath of the Yakezie network.

Wow. It has been a while hasn’t it? For the past few weeks, I’ve been riddled with final exams and state certification exams which ended with the much dreaded graduation. Yes, it was depressing because who wants to leave college?

So what are some of my future plans? Coming out of school at the worst economic time in the past decade (probably more), my contribution to the unemployment rate of the United States is expected.

The few things I’m working on at the moment are to:

1. Study for my Dental Admissions Test (DAT).
2. Complete dental school applications.
3. Complete dental internship.
4. Hunt for any form of part-time/residual income for all the fees that I’m about to pay.

Many of my posts have been focused on the finances of college life and that may change now. The future of Realm of Prosperity will most likely pertain more to careers than college. And, I’ll probably include much about my path into graduate school.

Let’s see what “adult” life has in store for me.

Sorry for the lack of posts for the last two weeks. Been busy interning and studying.

Recently, I found a great WordPress theme so I switched to the self-hosted WordPress blogging platform. It looks much cleaner and more professional. Compare it to www.realmofprosperity.blogspot.com.

I put quite a few hours into customizing this theme and paying for hosting so I hope all you readers enjoy it! You will see more dedication (post-wise) from me since I’d like to increase the amount of visitors to my growing personal finance blog.

The school year has finally settle in and now I’ll be posting more frequently. Been a little busy remaking the blog layout and I’ll be switching to using the WordPress software.

I’ve applied for a job that I pretty much got but my credentials are waiting for approval. So I’ll be working from 9AM – 3PM and have class from 4PM -10PM. Can’t wait to start work, I need the $$$$.

Later this week, I’ll be applying for the Roth IRA at Scottrade. I’ll be looking into funds from Vanguard, Dodge & Cox, T. Rowe Price, and Marsico.

Today, I’ve sent my reinstatement request in to eBay. Hopefully they’ll allow me to sell again. It would help provide myself with some residual income.

Finally, is a reminder to myself to renew my FAFSA application for the upcoming year. If only my parents would finish up with their taxes.

Welcome to my blog, which is finally up and running smoothly. Here I’ll post all the events involving my finances as a way to track and to remind myself of the goals I wish to accomplish. I will also be providing educative information that I find useful.

My name is Simon and I am undergraduate college student at Stony Brook University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science and a minor in Business Management. The prospective future includes a career in the health professions, hopefully in dentistry. Though still in college, I’m utilizing all possible methods for extra sources of income. Currently, multiple streams of income are from a university job, paid online surveys, and affiliate marketing. I guarantee that I’ll be discovering others for making money and increasing networth.

This is a personal finance blog that I started after looking around the internet and finding the many other educational blogs that are out there. After doing so, I decided to start one myself and taking my finances seriously and try to make my future a prosperous one. On the last day of every month, there will be an update post on my current net worth to track my progress.

I’m starting with a little under $2,000 and I try to manage it to meet my goals. I’ll venturing into the world of stock investing and retirement along with searching for more sources of residual income. I’m looking to greatly increase my knowledge of the financial world and I’ll share the information with my readers.
