For the short-term, hopefully your Chinese New Year money can recoup some of the money drain (I still have my red envelope/money but I guess I should be putting it to use, already, right? Hehe). In general, though, I think your education is a great investment - having training as an EMT will be beneficial on many levels, including financial : ). Have a great semester!
