Staying away from the items you mentioned is insurance for your health so good for you. Eating lots of fruits and veggies seems to be common sense but it's not done so commonly! There has to be change, though, because our health care and insurance industries are a mess. We need to take more responsibility for our health.

Good for you! Investing in your health is insurance for the rest of your life. You've only got one body so you might as well take care of it in the best way possible. Doing so leads to being able to live the best life. I could do better myself so I appreciate your post.

@Matt: Yes, water is the bomb!

@Rich: I have no idea where photo was taken (caught my eye while browsing Flickr). Wow, 13 years. Kudos to you. I certainly won't be able to do it. I totally agree that healthy foods cost more nowadays. We advocate healthy eating but the food prices tell us otherwise.

I've also been a vegetarian for quite some time, and I haven't had any soda pop in well over a year. But you can still be overweight as a vegetarian! This is my own battle, still working it out. I think sugar is a really big problem food - bread products are basically just cheap, fast sugar.

First, I love the graphic. I have not seen it before. Is is part of a new ad campaign?

Second, I have been a vegetarian for 13+ years and feel great. It wasn't always easy but in recent years the availability of veggie food has really exploded. I also have a huge veggie garden in the spring, summer, and fall months as well as organic chickens for fresh eggs. It is a sad commentary however that you can feed an entire family on unhealthy KFC for far less cost than making a healthy meal at home.

Congrats on cutting back the soda. I have been cutting back on drinks we purchase (usually more seltzer waters than soda) other than coffee. I find that we spend a fair amount less when I drink just water and limit myself to maybe one seltzer a day.
