Is Three Years The Average Lifespan Of A PC / Laptop?
Computers have become things that many people cannot live without anymore. They cost hundreds of dollars and require good upkeep. As with any other electronic, we expect it to last as long as possible. For $800, I’d like my computer to last me 5+ years.
I’ve kept my laptop in great condition ever since I got it for college 3 years ago. My experience with my previous desktops has taught me many lessons to keep my computer in the best condition physically and technologically. I’ve had my fair share of viruses, spyware, pop-ups, and slow performance.

Recently, my laptop screen flashed to the notorious “blue screen of death” and I immediately scramble to find the problem. I refuse to let it die like this! Upon startup, I find the source of the system’s fatal error and follow the solution to prevent it from happening again. The next day, it pops up again!
Is this the beginning of the end of my laptop? The blue screen of death often means so. Coincidentally, my previous two desktops lasted 3 years each ago. Anyone find that 3 years is the average lifespan of their computers? Maybe I’m just using it too much.
I don’t want to spend another load of money to get another one.

I use computer-show.com to buy computers for my office. These computers have generally been leased (for around 3 to 6 months) and may have a few cosmetic scratches but the CPUs are awesome. So far we have bought 4 towers and 1 laptop and have been extremely happy with them. Even the monitors are great.
Our company is extremely small, so I always look for ways to save us money. We cannot afford to buy new computers every time one dies on us. I do not work for, or have any affiliation, with computer-show; I just like their product. I am sure there are many other such places on the net that offer the same type of savings.

It could be a number of things.
The first thing to check would be that every in firmly attached. That includes the hard drive cable. Check to make sure the memory is properly seated. Over time, it can start to wiggle out of its slot which can cause wacky things like this.
It’s possible the RAM went bad. It’s also possible there is too much dust in there. If everything appears seated properly, and it still does this, you may need to take it in for service. But first, do whatever you can to back up your data. If you send your machine off someplace, they may just erase the hard drive to eliminate the possibility of software errors.

NO WAY, I’d totally disagree with that!
My previous PC was working for 9 years and when I disposed it off because of its slow processor it was still working!
If you talk about usage I was on that computer more than 7 hours a day, 365 days a year!November 1st, 2008 at 9:44 am -

I have not experienced the Blue Screen of Death yet, but my touchpad has started to wear off…I am not happy about that. I am just hoping my VAIO makes it 2 1/2 more years through my school years…

It was happened to my laptop several months ago. I went to service centre. The original RAM was replaced. How lucky i am, that i still have this product warranty for 1 year. So it’s free. Not so long, then my laptop become death, seems like no power from battery. The problem is mainboard. Then, they replaced the original mainboard. They said that it’s one of failed product. Say, it’s 1 : 10
